The shifting politics of the private in education: Debates and developments in researching private school outreach in India

This qualitative study reviews the evolution of the private education sector in India. As private schools perception has changed in the recent years through the emergence of “Public Private Partnerships", the authors discuss the increasing importance of private schools. The paper raises important challenges following the implementation of “the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act’s” in 2009 and the allocation of 25% of the private provision for disadvantaged children.
